The Millennium Walkway was opened in the last week of 1999. Besides celebrating the
millennium, it was designed to complete the Goyt Way, part of the Midshires Way,
through the Torrs. The walkway is built on pillars at this end and, beyond, is
cantilevered out from the magnificent retaining wall below the railway. A plaque at its
entrance tells us that its design engineer, Stan Brewster, was tragically killed in the
London bombing of July 2005. Another plaque records that the walkway was given the
Derbyshire Greenwatch award in 2000. From here a walk along the walkway provides a
magnificent view of the weir, mill and railway wall and leads to location 4.
